I occasionally guest write for one of my friend's blogs and she writes for mine. We cross link our work so we both get tons of exposure. It is helpful to make blogger friends. You can find loads of them on Twitter during the day. Most are out there posting their links and you can search tags to find them.

Blogs are kind of boring in my opinion. I prefer forums to have discussions on rather than just to read about someone.

Same here. I find that it's more productive to spend time building up a presence in the forums. Blog commenting is just too short-term for long-term benefits. I mean I can
make five to ten posts on a forum and that's considered normal. If I were to do that on a blog, it's going to be very fishy.

Yes I do post in some blogs and it is my way of promoting my own blog too. What I think of this method is that when I post in someone else's blog, they would somehow think that it is good to return the favor and visit and post in my blog too. It will not always be effective but somehow it works.

Guest blogging is beneficial for both parties because 1) unique content 2) backlink in your niche. It's always advised to get more backlinks in your niche as the links give more juice as opposed to a link in a niche that has nothing to do with what your site covers. I've have also gained new readers from guest blogging simply because I have an opportunity to expose myself to a new audience. This works both ways, another positive for both parties. Also, it's good to meet other bloggers in your field to network with. As other others have mentioned, getting feedback from outside sources to give you a different view, will only make you a better writer.

To find other blogs to guest blog on isn't hard either. I simply send them a message introducing myself and the website I run and propose to guest blog and explain the benefits for both parties. More often than not, they are willing to accept. I mean, there really isn't anything negative about it; win-win situation.

Do you post on blogs other than your own as a way to have coming back inbound links to your website or to recognize yourself as an expert? I do try to do this as often as I can. It is a awesome way to create up guests to your own website.
