Here are few tips to apply in your retail business which have always been useful for me:

    1. When you first approach a retail customer tell them what you can do for them.

    2. Tell them something, briefly about your experience, position in the business, qualifications, and how you can help them.

    3. Introduce yourself as an expert, an advisor, and someone that can help them to make informed choices.

    What works best for u?

You have provided some good tips. It is always important to make eye contact with customers and to give them a smile. Let them know that you are there to help without bothering them so much that they are unable to shop in peace.

That's great but it's getting the customers through the door first that is the hard work. I have no problem keeping them once they are in my establishment. I pride myself on my excellent customer service and my staff are the same. That's a given.

Yes, showing customers you care is the best way to convince them to buy for you. The key is to make their agenda a priority, not yours. As far as getting customers in the door, of course promoting as often as possible in the right ways is the only way.

Yes, you do certainly make a good point. The first thing you need to worry about is getting customers to your location. You cannot provide excellent customer care until you have clients to which you can provide the customer care.

It can be quite different promoting an offline retail location than promoting an online business or website. Please share with us some of the methods you are using to promote a retail location.

I have an online operation, or will soon. Therefore, I probably would not be much help in sharing with you for offline operations. The least I can do for now is say that I agree that when you meet people face to face you should greet them with a smile. Also, whether offline or online you should make sure you do not come across as too eager but you should show the people you serve that you care.

This is good advice for any retailers providers to make contact with the customers, but there is one thing more some times customers want privacy when they are in selecting mode in this case do not make the mistake of over helping them, this will irritate customer and will cost to the retailer.

This is similar to what I learned working for a UPS Store. Make the customer feel as though you're an expert in the trade (which we essentially are), and it helps them make a better choice (often better for the business as well).

In online retail I think it is best to be available to customers and have a great return policy. Some people feel that ordering online is a hassle. Your job is to find out what concerns they have and provide a solution for that concern.
