I would advise you to do PPC initially to get customers. But, make sure you use a squeeze page and opt-in form so that you capture the details of customers so that you can mail them again and again regarding various products. More importantly, PPC is good to determine whether the niche you chose is profitable and if people really do spend so much money buying products from that niche. If you spend too much time and money to do SEO on a site only later to find out that it is not profitable, that is gonna hurt you bad. I did it once, on my first site ever... 3 months of hard-work, several hundreds of dollars later I found out that the niche I chose was not profitable. That was a lesson hard-learned for me.

That is where PPC is really effective. Getting a surge of visitors for a short time and testing the profitability of your niche.

I don't see how PPC campaigns can do anything to promote your site. Those are paid clicks. There's nothing real in them at all. What you want is real people who visit your site and come back again and again. The only way to do it is to give them something worth their while to come back again. So it has to be quality content from the beginning to the end.

If you have money to afford then I would recommend starting with PPC. PPC is a great way to test the potential of your website and improve it since you start getting traffic almost immediately. However I would also recommend that you do SEO for your websites to get long term search engine traffic. The problem with PPC is that the traffic stops coming as soon as stop paying for the Ads.

I think you have just stated the exact reason why money should not be wasted on PPC. The traffic stops as soon as you stop paying for the ads. That's because it's not real traffic. The money would be very much better spent on things which generate real traffic.

For long term traffic, SEO is the way to go. For fast and/or immediate traffic, PPC is the way to go. A combination of both is the best way to go. It's what I'm doing and I'm pleased with the results.

I probably should go for both. its just a matter which will be the first i think. I'd recommend doing SEO and , when you rank in the first page, start PPC. Adwords is a bit pricey so you'd hope to apply ppc in a short period of time but will do good for your promotion.

My advice is to do both of them:

    - buy PPC campaigns in some cheap PTC sites - this will help growing your Alexa rank, even if these visitors clicks your site only because they are paid to do this; growing faster your Alexa, also Google will index your site faster than usually.
    - and work on your SEO optimizing - it's not necessary to pay for these SEO services; search on Google for free SEO help and you can make it yourself, don't pay for this!
