Not to brag or something, but I consider myself highly skillful and adroit when it comes to marketing and selling stuff online. For some reason, I might not be quite good when it comes to selling stuff offline or maybe I will be, I just haven't tried it yet. But to talk about online selling, I am really skilled. In my personal opinion, the only skill required for effectively selling a product online is the writing skill. If you can write a really good article about the pros and cons of the product and as a matter of fact, if you can write a fascinating article about the complete review of your product, then people are definitely going to buy your product. When it comes to selling things online, the word of mouth is not essentially the best strategy to be adopted. All you need is to write a great article about the product and publish it the article directories, blog directories, social networks and stuff, you will automatically start to get a couple of sales every hour. Another important thing that you have to keep in mind is that you should never rush for promoting products which will earn you more commissions. Stick to promoting products which you like personally. Promote products which are more useful. Stuff that general public will feel inclined to. I hope this helps.

Selling requires a more tactical skillset, as opposed to my nice and comfy technical one. For some reason or another, that is always a business aspect best outsourced from my standpoint. I have always had difficulty convincing people to buy or do something they don't necessarily want to do. A behind the scenes technical presence is where I fit best, really.

I think I'm good at selling products but I only sell products that the customers need. I would usually ask a few questions of the customer to know what she needs. Then if I detect a problem that the customer is facing, I will recommend her a product. I used to sell cosmetics and I know some of my customers have problems with choosing the right lipstick and I would try to recommend the best product for their needs based upon the questions that I would ask them prior to their purchase. I think the best sales person is the one who listens more to the customers and talk less.

I have tried working in a cellphone store before. I think my selling capabilities was tolerable. LOL. I was able to sell units, but I can't say I was really good at it. Perhaps my personality lacks charm. I really don't know.

When I was younger I was involved in direct sales. It's a very demanding activity. I won't say that I am successful but I did make some money. Now I am trying to translate that knowledge and experience into skills which I can use in cyber space. It's going to take some time because I am used to getting feedback from face-to-face contact.

That's fantastic. So what did you sell? Or is it a secret?

Well, people around me thinks that I'm a good talker. Some say I could manipulate some conversations to my favor (I doubt it). They also say I'm talkative and I would become a good salesman but I don't want to be a salesman. That's why I didn't take up any business related course in college. I don't think it's just about the personality but also the willingness of the person. They say I have the personality but not the drive.

I really don't like selling things to people. Although selling things to people you don't know over the internet is kind of easier than selling to people you do know personally.

This is my topic area, even though I focus more on the web based side of the business I still have to learn and adapt to the companies methods. As we are a sales training company we only use the methods we teach, so its always important for me to be the voice of the company. The MD of the company keeps telling me this and its the major part of my role with the team to be the voice.

To sell you need to be confident, if you mutter or erm and ahhh, people will see they can take you down to any number they want. Keep it simple and use the knowledge you know to show your customer that you really do understand the product. Don't go all super 'tech' with the language though, as people will want to still understand what it is they are buying.

Another method we teach is honesty, we positively hate the whole 'but you said this earlier' methods people use and we just say be straight with the customer, if you have 2 products one more expensive then the other just say 'you can have product A (premium) for X% off or product B at RRP' make sure however you have a number that is the lowest you can go to before you commit, that's when you get burned.

Confidence in yourself and your product is key, that's what sell's the product and you as a retailer.

After selling some things, I realized I am terrible at sales. I sell for the price the buyer asks for because I want to make the money and am afraid I won't ever find anyone else who wants to buy it. I wish I was good at making deals, but oh well.
