Would you hire a remote IT guy?

I would never allow remote access to any of my machines - let alone one used for running my business. Luckily I can fix this sort of stuff myself but I would never trust anyone on one of my machines that could possibly have sensitive information on.

Just as what I've. Of course most of the techie guys don't want to be tocompromized. But for some that really needs help will. And before the remote access, i'd probably tell them to remove the private file which has private info in it that they might not people to accidentally accessed. I am also guaranteeing that we don't do anything stupid to them nor the reputation of our team. I guess it just depends to the trust. My clients can send comments and can publicly tell whether I'm we're doing something.

They can post even in this forum to ruin our reputation if they feel like we didn't perform well for them.

Its always the scores that prevents newbies to be successful in the company though. I have few scores in desk, if this is what can create them believe in me then I can display my information to them.

I would not. If I currently experience certain problems regarding the use of the computer, I would only go for Google search. I believe all the answers are already available without me paying anything. The only cost that I shall be facing is time and a level of patience. If I really could not solve the issues by myself, I am willing to ask for an assistance of a local IT person. I would let him personally check my computer while I am there monitoring his moves. I just could not trust anyone while he's remote. Also, I do not think he could readily conclude the issues by only checking my files and properties. I believe he still could not get an administrative control through the team viewer. And I am afraid that the problem could only get even worse. If it did, I barely could not ran after the remote guy. lol.

I would say go for it. If you let the customers know that you can only access it when they open Team Viewer and that you'll only do it while they're on the other end then you should be able to gain trust pretty quickly. I wish I knew how to troubleshoot because that is a great idea!

I would definitely hire a remote IT guy! I know that many people do not like to hire them because they have to get access to the computer, but this can definitely save you some money and allow you to have your computer working properly in no time flat.

I work in the IT industry right now. Most if not all of my work could be done remotely, however my employer will not allow remote workers. No telling how much time and money we both could save by having a remote-working deal going. It's not hard to set up either, especially since all the work I do, is remote into servers from my work location. Just makes sense in my opinion.

I do most of my IT work myself (used to be in IT) but I have, for some specialized projects, got help from online specialists. It was smooth and worth the money !

I know it's a legit thing to allow technicians to remotely access your system and work on it but i've got a serious issue with that. Allowing that type of access means letting someone, who you do not know, have access to all my important information and files. I guess if the service is from a trusted company it's ok, but I still won't be comfortable doing that.

I am all for working with people from all over the world, which I do in my web design business, but for such things I wouldn't just let someone I don't know get access to my stuff. There are many businesses in our cities that do the exact thing, so in this case I'd hire locally only.

With something like TeamViewer you are able to be right there while they do it and watch everything they are doing. If you see them starting to do something that is suspicious then you can just disconnect them.
