Simply put, I was wondering what the best paperback/hardback marketing books were, classics perhaps that never go out of date, useful for those learning marketing and advertising.

The only book I can recommend is Guerilla Marketing, a really good read, especially when they keep updating the editions!

I'm actually reading "Facebook Marketing: An Hour a Day" by Chris Treadaway and Mari Smith.

However my favorite marketing book is "Direct marketing: strategy, planning, execution" by Edward L. Nash.

It's a 2000 printed edition, but still very useful as a reference book.

I have several favorite marketing books:

Duct Tape Marketing --good for brick and mortar business
    Permission Marketing

For Dummy books are not bad at all IMO. There are also some very good eBooks online if you want to check them out. They're in PDF format.

I like Dan Kennedy and Bob Bly as authors of marketing books.

Of course, advertising legend David Ogilvy once said no one should have anything to do with advertising until they have read
"Scientific Advertising" by Claude Hopkins at least 7 times.

Wow, I had a look at some of these on Amazon and then a few preview pages too and they look so good!

Which one should I get first?

hmmm I think this is a good place for me to be with because I haven't read marketing books formally. I am just hearing advises from people but I have not really read books that could possibly help me market my business. So guys please keep it coming. I am loving what I am learning here so far.

I love Bob Bly's marketing books. I can't believe I forgot about him. When I launched my first business, his book, Selling Your Services, was my bible. I didn't believe his methods would work, but I tried them anyway. I was pleasantly surprised when his methods worked.
