Obviously to appear on the first page of Google is a temporary goal. Your page will never stay on the first page for long because someone out there is working to get his/her content up. Nonetheless, what you need is good content, a reputable website - you ought to have built up your website to be a trustworthy one, not one where your posting is infrequent and not sufficient for quality reading.

    Here are some random ideas.

Start doing a series on local personalities. Maybe you think that they are insignificant but out of the hundreds of millions of people who surf the net every day, there will surely be many who will be interested in, say, what kind of mayor you have in your town. Then do a series on the historical background of various parts of your town. Every house and every street has a story. Just do some research, talk to some of the old folks and you have a lot of content to write about.

Get your page out there as much as possible, the more attention that it gets, the higher it'll rank. That's probably the most basic and vague thing to say but a lot of people overlook the most standard ways to bring more traffic and rank higher to your page. A lot of people are looking for quick options which is understandable but is easier said than done, to me.

Yes, Social media helps. You have to have keywords & search engine optimization. Your content should be original and informative. You should be promoting on every place possible!

Advertising, SEO, backlinks and Social Media. I would suggest an SEO service or consultant instead of trying to do this yourself.

It's actually very easy to listed on Google. But if you don't know how, you can hire people who are willing to help you!

It's NOT easy to get on the first page, and it takes lots of time and work.

Thanks for the ideas. I surely will do some background info why some street names are named as they are. I remember a someone told me that they name the street in our town "mango avenue" because its a mango field back 1940s. Your idea is awesome!

There is one more thing to keep in mind.

Working to get your site listed on top of other websites is absolutely useless if your content doesn't match surfers' expectations.

Many sites that are on top of all the results for a given keyword, sometimes are listed exactly for just the same; because they have used keywords and SEO tricks to achieve the search engine goal.

However when a surfer clicks on the result just to find nothing but keywords, nobody should expect great conversions nor the visit back of people that go away due to the lack of real content or specific offers.
