This is interesting, I've never owned a pop up shop but I do think it is a good idea and a great way to make some of your money back. The best part about it is that you can travel with you retail store to spread the word and reach more customers.
Pop-up shops aren't just something run offline. GiffGaff, one of the Top UK mobile networks, ran a pop-up shop online, where you could trade "payback points" for items in the store, for a limited time and the purchase would be delivered to you. It was a good success, and they said they'll be doing it again in the future.
When I was in college, I helped my uncle with a pop up shop he put up for his bake shop just before Christmas time. He had a good sampling of his goods there. It was actually a great idea since it made people aware of his bake shop. It resulted to more people going to his bake shop to see what else was there. He also got a lot of orders for Christmas.
