To be honest I have never really used a professional program. I just developed a spread sheet which works for me in Excel. Then I am able to track all of the information rather easily.

In my case (and a lot of cases above), I do the bookkeeping myself. Consulting is quite a straightforward activity. But for the tax, I use a tax advisor, I always found that this was saving money thru deductions I would not have been able to have. Now the next question is which software do you use ? I would not mind some sharing as to which bookkeeping is the best : Any input anyone ?

i do bookkeeping for my small family business.I do it manually since getting a software for the same is costly.I do it daily to allow consistency and reducing errors.

I do the bookkeeping for my business because I like to keep everything simple. Plus I don't really trust anyone that much. I'm not familiar with bookkeeping software (I live under a rock) so basically a spreadsheet just works fine for me.

I think it depends upon individuals. If you have deep knowledge of bookkeeping then it is always better to do your own. But if you are unaware about it, then it is always better to hire a bookkeeper or outsource the service.

For bookkeeping you can check quickbooks hosting software.

I have always used MYOB accounting software. I like it better than QuickBooks. MYOB is easier to use but QB has better reporting and more features for those who need it. I have an accounting background and understand what I am doing, so I can fulfill all the bookkeeping requirements myself. But for those with bigger businesses and less inclination, having a good experienced bookkeeper can be a God-send!
