Has anyone here taken advantage of Local Deals sites (Groupon, LivingSocial, LifeBooker, or even the less popular ones)? How did it help or hurt your business? Did it make a difference at all? I am considering offering a volume order deal, but I'm trying to match it to my services in a way that makes sense. I have also heard that these sites can backfire if you haven't planned for production costs of large orders.

I have never taken advantage of these sites before. For me some of these sites are nothing more then a way to waste money because I spend more then I get on returns.

I haven't taken advantage of the local deals sites because my business is business-to-business. I have been thinking about starting a business and using the local deal sites to kick start the business. I think the key to making these sites work for you is to convert some of the deal buyers to long term customers.

I work as a freelance writer and web designer so these would not work for me. However, it is interesting that the local advertisements would help pull up a ton of extra sales for people!

I think long term customers is key, too. I know that some people appreciate the sudden boost, but it seems like it's great for a type of business that keeps people coming back.

It is said that Groupon is a not bad. All in all I'm prejudiced against such sites.
