Hey Jerry. Great post. I haven't imported any goods from China, but have purchased a bunch of parts from Japan to sell. Mostly camera parts and computer parts. The prices are amazing, but the shipping lags so much.
I only did business once with China, actually it was my company, but I was directly involved too. We had to buy 1 million football ballsand the Chinese offered such a low price it was ridiculous. It was worth it though, the larger the quantity of goods you import, the more cost efficient the whole deal will be. The balls were pretty bad though but they were only given to children, not pros.
I have a friend who gets fashionable sunglasses from China. He says that he gets the glasses much cheaper from China, and he is offered a larger quantity. He was scammed twice, but now he has a reliable, affordable seller who he can trust. The products took long because he had them shipped to the United States. I believe that it can take up to a month to get his inventory sometimes. He has to make sure to be proactive about ordering product way before he needs it. If you can get a reliable seller, go for it!
When I used to make handmade cards I would import items from China and Thailand - it was mostly decorative toppers. Not only were they far superior to anything I could buy here - they were totally unique meaning my cards stood out from others.
I have seen many Chinese products listed on Alibaba that sounds like appealing merchandise to try out.
However I have read many negative reviews on Chinese manufacturers, not just for the low quality of some of those products, but for scams waiting that one place a large order and send money upfront and getting nothing in return, even the contact information changed afterwards.
While there are legit offers and products of regular quality to sell, I feel panic to try, despite many dealers in my city manage some of those products I have seen advertised.
Most of the products from china are cheaper. Although they said they're substandards, I think it will just depend on how a person use it. I have a laptop that's from china but it serves me well.
You do need to be careful when purchasing from China, or indeed any country. Because you are buying without being able to see your purchase you have to have faith that the quality will be okay. I have heard horror stories of poor quality items coming in from China and other places but my own experience was nothing but positive.
I do not import products but if ever I do, I would not import alot of products from China. I would only import those products that has good reviews all over the net and I would always look for the quality and not for cheap products.
I have not imported product from China yet, but wanting to do it because of the novelties at very low price.
However I have learned to do a review check before proceeding, and I found that it's necessary learn a bit the background of the company you are dealing with and find if there are customer reviews, because while some companies seems to be serious, some others seems to be scam deal with many complaints.
