Last night my boss took all 6 of his staff from our office out for dinner and drinks, just as a midyear social event, it cost him a fortune! $770! But we all really appreciated the event, amazing food, great night out and we got to know each other a little better.

I'm a big fan of employers valuing their employees like that, perhaps you could share your "Good employer" stories ... and the horror stories as well for a laugh!

Employers are usually good. I once work in a cabinet manufacturer that are for export and our employer is a japanese. He's really good, makes things easier, provide us meals for the whole duration of your contract. Its those subordinates that bullies regular employees.. One time there is a salesman wanted to talk to the owner, the subordinates didn't allow the sales agent to comein the office but when the owner met the salesman waiting for him outside, he actually let him discuss with him and avail the product of that sales man.

When I was working for a large re-insurance company, the District Manager treated us to a fun day because we exceeded both quality and quantity standards. We went to the ballpark and watched the local baseball team. We were also treated to lunch at the ballpark which had a lot of upscale food. I'm sure it must have cost at least $1K USD. Fun was had by all. We felt appreciated.

In my office, my boss sometimes call the any staff to his room and consult about his/her progress, opinion, sometimes personal matter. My boss is very kind man and always keep update to his employers. I think its very useful for inspiring the employers and i really inspired from him. Sometimes he called the staffs for a party and we felt really appreciated then.

I worked in a shop when I was at college - it was a small family run business. The young girl I worked alongside fell pregnant ans was scared stiff about it. Despite being on her own she kept the baby and when she left to go on maternity leave our employer had bought her a pram, cot and a ton of other baby accessories. I have worked for larger employers since who have given their employees bonuses etc but that random act of kindness will stay with me forever!

I really like employers who try to treat their employees like their equal. I really hate the employers that are very blunt and obvious about the fact that they are on top of everyone else. Everyone knows that the boss is in charge, it is common knowledge. There is no reason why you have to have a pompous attitude about it.

I do not have a story to tell. I just want to drop be here and say that your boss is big time. $700 for one night to spend with his staff is a lot! But I think it is a great move because through this he will be more close to his staff and this will create a very good atmosphere in the workplace.

I worked for someone once, a small business that did this once a year. We would have one fancy dinner per year, suits and ties, the best of food and it was wonderful. We also go bonuses. Unfortunately they went out of business.

When I was working for a small wine company, the manager took us to a vineyard for lunch and site seeing. The sites were so beautiful, and I just remember being very appreciative of it. I also had a manger that didn't appreciate the employees or any contributions to the store. I was out of there quickly.
