I'm pretty sure they copyright the actual Olympics logo, and possible have some legal backing if you alluded to any connection to the event. I was just watching a TV show about their sponsors and it all seems quite formal and protected. Having said that, I doubt they'd ever know or really care about a small venture like nail art. You would have to think carefully about how you advertised the service though.
Yes, I would think that their logo is copyrighted. You would have to look into this in more depth to determine if there are things you can do to add the upcoming Olympics to your nanil art.
I did a quick Google search and found this http://www.london2012.com/about-us/o...-the-brand.php
Will you be using the logo only on nails or in printed works also? For the latter you may face problems, but I cannot see any issue arising from using the design for nail art. If you are concerned I would suggest seeking legal advice.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the help guys. I won't be using it on anything but nail art, but I was hoping for some free publicity because of it. I may have to rethink the whole thing as I would hate to get into trouble because of it.
Perhaps you can get permission to use the Olympics logo? Hopefully it would not cost too much to gain the rights to use it.
It's definitely copyrighted. It's also VERY carefully controlled - that's why there are all those stupid "Official [insert item here] of the 2012 Olympics" tags for companies. There's millions in revenue associated with it, so they're pretty picky who gets to use it in advertising.
If I were you, I'd pop them a note and ask for their conditions of use before you do anything with the logo. There's a good chance that you can use it in certain ways without getting all legally involved.
I have read the terms and conditions on their website but I'm still unclear. They say that they don't have the resources to respond to individual enquiries and advise that you get a legal expert to check it for you, but that will cost money so I'm scrapping the whole idea.![]()
There is a lot of money to be made from the Olympics but, unfortunately, it's confined to the select few and it looks as though they are guarding the brand very jealously. No doubt, if you did get publicity, they would pursue you for their pound of flesh. Not worth it, so don't blame you for scrapping it.
yes it is fully copyrighted zeb coe was asked about it last week on some political show. From his reply they are gunning for everyone. The olympics are not for the little person only big business i'm afraid.
