It is funny you brought this up, as I was just thinking about this topic yesterday. I remember when instant messengers were the big thing and everybody who was anybody used them. I grew up in the 90's so when we weren't playing street basketball, tag or wiffleball, we would come home after school and all log onto AOL instant messenger. That was how advanced with girls back in the third grade because it was much easier to muster of the bravery from behind a computer.
Anyways, in regards to the questions itself, no, I do not use messenger anymore. In fact, I don't think I know anybody who still uses it nowadays, with the advent of facebook, linkedin, twitter and all those other social networking tools. The only exception I can think of would possibly be Skype.
Chatting takes too much of my time and productivity is essential in my business activity, so I don't really use any messenger but, if needed I get into Gmail to use the chat feature.
I stopped using Microsoft Messenger when it was re-branded as "Live" Messenger, version that eats up too much system resources.
In fact I didn't use the Messenger alone because my preferred messaging system was IM Miranda, which allows to connect to different messaging services at a time without causing system hogs.
Skype is just wonders of wonders . . My whole family uses Skype and its so easy to use for personal as well as official work .
I use skype all time especially during video chat since it streams really fast. I use also yahoo messenger whenever I talk to my friends.
There's another new one out now called Digsby. Most of the people I used to talk to on AOL have abandoned their aol accounts years ago so it's a waste of time leaving the window open.
I used to use Messenger all the time, but for the past few years, I've left Messenger and switched to Skype.
The layout is much better. The voice and video calls are much better also, and nowadays many people use Skype instead.
Also Skype can be used as an actual phone, which is a great feature.
Switched to Ipad recently and there are plenty of other good options for communication like : Skypee
I'm was use rediff bol, yahoo, msn, skype but currently use only skype & msn.
