I looked around quite extensively, all the popular web sites with high page ranks have nofollow links.

Just how do you build a lot of good backlinks these days with nofollow sites everywhere?
Don't you must have high PR dofollow links in order to go up in SERP ranking?

The only way to tackle this problem is building yourself your backlinks with the link wheel strategy, connecting your own sites one another to boos your SEO first and get a high pagerank eventually.

However this takes time and may also require to get at least one backlink from a popular website, but sometimes is possible to pay for the backlink to get it as dofollow.

Can go for good content related directories. If you feel getting link from a site is good , can buy those links. Can go to competitors backlinks for good links

How do you find competitors' backlinks anyway?
Someone suggested a few backlink checker sites, they seem all require pay to get full features. The cost isn't cheap either.

As for directories, they are all full of links of other sites. Google doesn't like pages with too many links. Although I did submit to many directories at the very beginning, all I get is tons of spam mails now about SEO etc. That's what I get for signing up with free directories lol.

Look at your successful backlinks and find who powers that site. Then search for those sites along with your keyword included to find more of those particular sites you built your original backlinks on.

Alternatively, work together with a group of friends to create cross-linking to each other's sites. I think on some forums, they have this service. Not sure if this forum would consider starting something like that.

Nofollow links definitely don’t pass PageRank. A nofollow link did pass anchortext, normally due to bugs in indexing that we then fixed. The essential thing we need to know is that nofollow links don’t help sites rank higher in Google’s search results.

I think a blog commenting give a backlink & generate more traffic but if you done proper or use niche blog & give comment best way.
