Retailers and affiliates, who make more profit?

Is there a point to promote someone else's products while you can sell the same products yourself?

Would you rather be a retailer or affiliate? Why?

I prefer to create my own products. They profit margin is much higher and I'm building a customer list. If creating your own products isn't feasible, then being an affiliate is a very fast way to start earning money online.

Agree with Parker, making one's one products will be always more profitable than any other option to sale.

Even though, choosing between a retailer or an affiliate program depends on your marketing plan and the product itself.

If you have developed the infrastructure to sell from your own website, a retailer program could be more profitable if you don't have your own products or you are still in a production stage, but depending on the product, you could have a strategy to market it via social networking sites, email or else.

Affiliates however, don't require infrastructure to sell products, simple run banners, promotional articles and so on, now depend on the product (again) one or another can be more profitable.

I choose retailer, because I think it's better to sell (your own) products directly to the customer. I believe the profit should be higher this way.

Personally..1 would GO the affiliate route..being in the Travel Business..even if, in a niche Market..One retail out let would never be enough..PLUS the fact of the matter is
Retail Travel Agencies are disappearing from the High Street..at an ever increasing rate!!

When compared to an affiliate, a retailer can gain more profits. But retailing requires more investment!!
